Friends or Frenemies?

on November 3, 2012

Kids sometimes fight with their friends but quickly get over it and they are having fun once again. You should watch out for frenemies though – these toxic relationships can be hurtful and can lead to your child having negative feelings about themselves and others.

Help your child develop healthy friendships by talking to them about what makes a good friend.
Encourage your child to have a variety of friends from different places: school, sports, your neighborhood.
Talk about your own friendship history. Tell them about the good friends you had when you were their age as well as the not so good friendships.
Get to know your childs friends. Invite them over and observe how they treat each other. Encourage your child to spend more time with the ones who are genuine and respectful.
